How Booster Drafting Works

Booster drafting is a fast-paced limited format where 2 to 8 players open fresh card packs, build 40-card decks on the spot, and play exciting 1-on-1 games lasting about 20 minutes each. Here is how you draft your deck at LUG Con:

  1. Take Your Seat: Players sit around the table in a semi-circle.
  2. Pack 1 (Pass Left): Open your first booster pack, secretly pick 1 card to keep without showing anyone, and pass the remaining cards to the player on your left. You’ll keep picking 1 card from the pack passed to you from the right until all cards in Pack 1 are taken.
  3. Pack 2 (Pass Right): Open your second pack, pick 1 card secretly, and pass the rest to the player on your right.
  4. Pack 3 (Pass Left): Open your third pack, pick 1 card secretly, and pass to the left again.
  5. Build & Battle: At the end of drafting, you will have roughly 45 cards. Combine your drafted picks with as many basic lands as you need to build a minimum 40-card deck and jump straight into 1-on-1 matches!
